Crazy Leaves (2014)

An Indie Rock Playlist for Fall

For well over a decade I've made an indie rock playlist that captures (at least to me) the ambiance of the four seasons. This is the first time I've shared my autumn mix.

All songs chosen based on their ability to conjure up feelings, images, rhythms, and moods of everything that comes with the fall.

Click play and enjoy!

Notes at this time:

  1. The full version of "Hey Doreen" by Lucius isn't on YouTube,
  2. The recorded version of Blunda's "If You Want Me" isn't on YouTube, and
  3. Making Marks' "Falling in Love Again" isn't on YouTube at all.
PLEASE let me know (via comments) if any of these become available down the road

Share this with your friends! These artists deserve being heard by many!!

Summer Guide 14

The best perennial indie-rock playlist ever.

Selection Rules

All songs must pass these two tests (which is more difficult than you think)...
  1. The song makes you want to dance your face off or sing at the top of your lungs
  2. The song must make a party and road trip better.
FYI: the "almost" tracks will be released in a couple month's time on Summer Cuts.

Listening Rules

  1. Play them in order (failure to do so may result in sudden death)
  2. Play them loud!!
  3. Play them with friends who love great music.
Seriously, these artists are amazing, and I encourage you to purchase these songs or see them in concert. Also, thanks to my main sources: the Indie-Rock Playlist, BIRP!, and good ole Pitchfork.

Enjoy! This mix will put you in a better mood! Track listing and download links below:

Murals - "Eyes of Love"

This song is fantastic because it's almost 1920's with its school room piano and reverberated sound, but the rest of the song brings you into home, right now.

"Hey" - The Pixies

Wow. Amazing what 25 years does to musical perspective.

Few gave The Pixies the credit they deserved through the '90's as bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc were the ones to become famous with the fast-slow, fast-slow "alternative" sound. Foundational songs like this one were amazing achievements in an era dominated by glam rock and Brit pop.

And here's the original if interested.
